SSST and its Department of CSIS had the pleasure of hosting another prominent guest lecturer this week. On Tuesday, April 18 2017, as part of our Big Data Research Seminar, our guest from the University of Buckingham Professor Hongbo Du held a talk under the title of "Decision Support for Big Data: Issues of Confidence-based Classification and Data Stream Clustering”.
The talk covered two issues encountered in this context: (a) how to measure a level of confidence in a classification decision that a trained model makes in supervised learning, and (b) how to group continuous streams of data effectively and efficiently in unsupervised learning. The talk not only covered the theory and algorithm issues, but also showed their relevance in real-life applications.
Dr Hongbo Du is a senior lecturer in the Department of Applied Computing, University of Buckingham. He is an esteemed scholar and speaker who took this occasion to talk more about his research on data stream clustering.
