SSST UNIVERSITY RECEIVES A GRANT FROM THE SAUDI ARABIA GOVERNMENT IN THE AMOUNT OF USD 10 MILLION

Date: October 22nd, 2015

On Thursday, 27 August 2015, a press conference began at 09:30 am at the Sarajevo School of Science and Technology University (SSST), on the occasion of the most recent success of a project developed by the SSST University in cooperation with the Government of Saudi Arabia. The Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Bosnia and Herzegovina, His Excellency Hani bin Abdullah Moeminah officially announced the news on the allocation of financial resources to SSST University, in the amount of ten million US dollars, for the development of an institute for scientific research.

In his opening remarks Professor Ejup Ganić, ScD, the founder and Chancellor of the SSST University, extended a warm welcome to the Ambassador as a distinguished guest and friend, as well as to all the media representatives, employees and members of the SSST team. He then talked about the manifold and enormous importance of this cooperation practically, not only for SSST, and education and scientific research in general, but also for Bosnia and Herzegovina as a country, and for all its citizens.

Over the past period, the SSST has invested dedication and hard work into an extremely complex and ambitious project of establishing and developing a world-class modern scientific research institute in our country. The entire procedure included, among other things, three separate presentations of the project in Saudi Arabia in the past three years. In a very tight competition, the project was accepted and selected by the Government of Saudi Arabia, who approved of a grant in the amount of USD 10 million.

These funds will be used for the construction of a new state of the art building for the research institure, and the procurement of starting equipment necessary for the development and implementation of planned activities, primarily in the fields of medical science and information technology. As part of these activities, dozens of new job opportunities will be offered to academics, scientists and experts in the relevant fields. This grant is the largest amount ever awarded to a private institution, both in the country and in the region.

This projects places SSST University among the most significant and influential education institutions and research centers in the region, and opens enormous possibilities for the development of education, science and technology, international cooperation and exchange, and appointment of a large number of experts both from the country and abroad.

The research institute will be named in honour of the King of Saudi Arabia, Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

The official announcement of this cooperation, and the press conference which was held on that occasion, was attended by the management of the SSST University and the Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Bosnia and Herzegovina and his team, as well as representatives from the leading media agencies in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
