Educational Aims of the Module

  • The aim of this module to introduce students to the environment as well as different aspects of business.
  • Course participants will have the opportunity to develop confidence and to understand business systems, workforce demographics, social responsibility, business ethics, forms of business organizations, entrepreneurship, small business and franchise systems, human resource management, marketing and financial management.
  • This module gives students a structured background but also aims to encourage the acquisition of general skills relating to these topics through participation in class discussions, real life case studies and research project.

Module Outcomes

Intended Learning Outcomes:

  • To enhance comprehension of the most important terminology from the field of Business.

  • To broaden understanding of contemporary issues in fields of Business and to understand both, local and global, business environment.

  • Demonstrate awareness of ethical issues and explain the importance of responsibility to stakeholders

  • Analyse the components and significance of each function of the business

  • Understand the relationship among different business function

  • Use already defined methods to undertake investigation related to the field of Business and communicate results in appropriate format.

  • To collect information related to the field of Business from variety of authorised sources and to provide information related to solutions in familiar context.

Teaching and Learning Strategy:

  • Teaching will mostly be done in a lecture format with plenty of real-world examples crucial for understanding the core topics. In addition to the key text book, supplementary resources will be used, including the most recent articles. In this way, students will be able to relate the theoretical part to the current real world issues.(ILO: 1-5)

  • In-class participation will encourage students to formulate their own arguments and engage in the subject to discuss key themes. (ILO: 1-7)

  • A group assignment (with presentation) will allow students to research to a broader extent relationship between theoretical concepts and practical application. Students will be supposed to evaluate the appropriateness of different methods of problem solving related to the field of Business. (ILO: 6,7)

  • Case studies and role plays will allow students to work as a group to discuss topical material in detail. (ILO: 1-7)

Assessment Strategy:

  • Final exams and Mid-term exam (ILO: 1-5)

  • Written group project (ILO: 6,7)

Practical Skills:

  • Ability to prepare written reports on relevant business topics

  • Ability to explain business concepts, problems, possible solutions and other related information to expert and other audience
