ACTS 2025: University SSST Brings Together Teachers and Educational Staff from Seven Bosnian Cities
On Friday, November 14, University SSST, with the support of Gymnasium SSST organized the Annual Conference for Secondary School Teachers – ACTS 2025, a platform dedicated to the professional development of educational staff. This year’s edition brought together several dozen teachers and professors, school principals, and educational associates from various cities across Bosnia and Herzegovina, with a shared goal of exchanging experiences and improving teaching practices.
ACTS 2025 was officially opened by Prof. Dr. Ejup Ganić, President and Founder of SSST University, emphasizing the University’s commitment to creating an innovative and supportive educational environment. The conference was also attended by Mr. Sifet Kukuruz, representative of the Ministry of Education of the Canton of Sarajevo, as part of institutional support for the continuous professional development of teachers.
Artificial Intelligence and the New Classroom
The first part of the conference sparked a discussion on how artificial intelligence is changing learning, teaching, and communication. Prof. Dr. Nedim Čelebić spoke about the challenges and opportunities of secondary education in the era of ChatGPT, particularly highlighting changes in assessment methods and the role of teachers. His introduction set the stage for Prof. Dr. Jasna Hivziefendić, who described digitalization as a profound shift in the culture of learning, not just the introduction of new tools in the classroom. Following this, Prof. Dr. Jasmin Azemović emphasized the importance of school-family partnerships in the digital age, especially in the context of ever-present technology, social media, and AI tools.
The shared message of this session was clear: artificial intelligence is not a threat but a powerful resource, but only if properly understood and integrated into modern educational processes.
Science in a New Light and Interdisciplinary Approaches
The second part of the conference was opened by Prof. Dr. Enita Nakaš, emphasizing the importance of providing secondary school students with quality support in career choice. Prof. Dr. Rasim Jusufović spoke about the current state of modern medicine and the skills expected from future healthcare professionals, highlighting that medical sciences are evolving as rapidly as the technology driving them.
A special contribution to this session came from a discussion moderated by Emina Ganić, Dean for Student Affairs at SSST and Chairwoman of the Board of SSST Gymnasium, together with Prof. Dr. Adnan Huskić and Prof. Dr. Andrea Lešić-Thomas. Their exchange addressed the role of social sciences in a time of strong STEM growth and emphasized the need to refocus on humanities and social sciences in educating new generations. The consensus among participants was that interdisciplinarity – combining technical and social competencies – is becoming key to young people’s success in the modern world.
Inspiration and Personal Development
The afternoon session focused on the personal development of teachers and students. Veteran journalist Emela Burdžović spoke about how secondary school shapes young people’s confidence, voice, and critical thinking, while Marija Sinanović, founder of the Yellow Brick educational center, highlighted the importance of teachers’ personal and professional growth, which directly contributes to the quality of education.
The shared focus of this session was on teachers and students as whole individuals—not just academic profiles, but young people who need support in developing self-awareness, confidence, and professional identity.
ACTS 2025 once again confirmed the importance of cooperation between educational institutions in building a modern, open, and innovative education system. Lectures and discussions highlighted key trends in education, the importance of an interdisciplinary approach, and the need for continuous development of both teachers’ and students’ competencies. SSST University continues to invest in the teaching community, modern education, and the development of tools that will help new generations meet the challenges of the future.
