The IT Department maintains the University's Active Directory Systems which allows every student or staff user access to a range of computers throughout the campus with a single ID, allowing the user to securely access all his/her files and personal virtual desktop through every computer on campus.
SSST uses the latest Microsoft Exchange Server platform for staff and student email. This technology is fully integrated with the Active Directory platform and also provides full integration with mobile devices, allowing all our users to receive emails instantaneously through the exchange push technology. The IT department is responsible for the maintenance and administration of this system at SSST.
The students' computer labs can be found on level -1 of the University's main building. Both labs (S7 and S11) are equipped with the latest DELL workstations running Windows 11. SSST is the first University in the region to implement this operating system on all its machines throughout the campus. The IT Department deals with the software and hardware maintenance of these machines and ensures that all the software required for the practical tasks of various courses is installed and updated on the workstations. Among various software installed, the students also have access to online journals and databases through their personal Springer Nature accounts.
The servers and storage at the University campus are all run by the latest Microsoft Server 2012 software with Server Hot Swap technology. The IT Department is responsible for the smooth operation of these servers, allowing both staff and students to have uninterrupted access to all their files with close to zero downtime.
University information system SPACE allows students to monitor their grades and attendance in all of their subjects in a given semester. SPACE is also an extremely important tool for professors and advisors to monitor student performance as well as store key information regarding every student at SSST. The IT department is responsible for administering this system as well as keeping it up to date with the latest student information.
The campus is completely covered by the latest Ruckus® wireless access points. This system, through active directory integration allows its users to have access to local as well as external resources (internet) on both 2.4 and 5.0 GHz frequencies. The Ruckus® Zone Director allows a user to walk freely around the campus without being disconnected while the system switches the users’ devices (laptop, mobile device etc.) to the next access point with best signal quality automatically.
The wired network at the campus consists of a fiber optic backbone between floors and various classrooms, lecture halls, auditoriums and amphitheaters using CAT6 technology which allows the users to benefit from 10GB speeds.
The IT Department provides technical support for various conference venues at the University by providing services such as Video Conferencing, Panel Discussion hosting, full digital surround sound with high quality mobile microphones, Full HD 3D wireless projectors with additional HDMI interfaces and many other services.
