This year’s Mediterranean Forum Dubrovnik Talks: Sarajevo Meeting 2018 was held on 19th and 20th October 2018 at the University Conference Center Sarajevo School of Science and Technology (SSST). The organizer of the Forum was the University Sarajevo School of Science and Technology.
The first day of the Forum was focused on the economic issues, especially the current regional and international economic situation of the Mediterranean region. The participants of the round table were the Rector of the University SSST, prof. Vjekoslav Domljan, H.E. Ambassador of Republic of Croatia, Ivan Del Vechio, the Dean of Zagreb School of Economics and Management, prof. Đuro Njavro, H.E. Madam Ambassador of Republic of Slovenia, Zorica Bukinac, Minister-Advisor at the Embassy of Montenegro, Mr. Radovan Miljanić, the Dean of American College of Greece, prof. Odysseas Katsaitis and the Advisor to the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China, Madam Zhou Yan. The ambassadors and academics discussed the economic situation of their countries, as well as plans and visions for the future, while reflecting on the most lucrative economic branches of their countries. Participants have also discussed the issue of the Adriatic-Ionian highway construction on whose importance and strategic influence they all agreed. This topic was discussed in detail throughout the session on Adratic-Ioninan highway which will connect the countries of the Mediterranean region, with the speeches of Mr. Budimir Lončar and Mr. Ešref Gačanin. The Chairman of the third round table, Mr. Ivan Orlić, talked about the Euro-Mediterranean partnership and its meaning in the current political context.
Information technologies and digital future as well as hot topics of women’s health, were the matter of discussion on the second day of the Forum and during the two simultaneous conferences – Conference on Medicine 2018 and the Conference on Digitalisation 2018.
The introductory note of the professor Asim Kurjak, world expert in the fields of gynecology and obstestrics, marked the start of the Conference on Medicine. The audience had a unique opportunity to find out about the recent advantages in obstetrics and gynecology, as well as the state of the Mediterranean countries concerning fertility studies and practices. The doctors that spoke on these subjects were renowned medical professionals from the region and beyond: prof. Tanja Premru Sršen, dr. Taib Delić, prof. Aris Antsaklis, dr. Gordana Vukčević, dr. Ulla Marton, prof. Milan Stanojević, prof. Aleksandar Ljubić and dr. Umit Goktolga. Professor Velimir Srića marked the start of the Conference on Digitalisation with his inspiring speech on modern technologies and their global impact on our daily lives. The speakers were also Omar Krivošija, director of Microsoft BiH, representatives from IT company Zemana: Azra Šišman, Arnela Hajdarević and Amina Zilić and the Dean of American college of Greece, prof. Odysseas Katsaitis. A large number of students, local and international, showed great interest in all of the conferences.
Dubrovnik Talks as a Mediterranean initiative started in 2017 in Dubrovnik, this year spanning seven countries through the exploration of their unique geopolitical platform. The organizers promise even large number of speakers and topic expansion for the upcoming year of 2019.
