SSST University's Sarajevo Medical School opened in the 2014/2015 academic year as the first private medical school in the region. Equipped with the most up-to-date laboratories, software, and by involving experts from practice in the teaching process, we quickly became competitive. As the fastest growing department within the University, and recognizing the needs of the market, we launched the study programs in dentistry, pharmacology and health studies.

Our students do their internship at relevant public health institutions in BiH (UCC Sarajevo, General Hospital “Prim.dr Abdulah Nakaš”), as well as at private clinics.

Our curricula follow the global trends in medicine and pharmacy and compete on equal footing with prestigious medical schools in Europe.

As part of the undergraduate studies, our program and methods of study are adapted so that students can take The United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) exam, which provides an added value to their studies and enables them to apply for internships at various clinics and hospitals across the world.

In addition to undergraduate studies, PhD study programs in clinical medicine and a PhD study program in biomedicine have also been launched.

As an answer to the needs of the society, healthcare systems and the employment market, we made the decision to launch our master studies in the area of health economics and pharmacoeconomics.

The idea on launching a study program which would provide the understanding of the basic principles of pharmacoeconomics during the health technology assessment formed as the result of experience during professional engagement in the pharmaceutical industry, as well as the enthusiasm related to previous pioneer education in this field.

Founding the first association in the area of pharmacoeconomics and outcome research, publishing the first professional and scientific publications, organization of conferences with international participation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as participation in numerous professional and scientific gatherings, both in the country and across the world, publication of the first literature in the area of pharmacoeconomics, dealing with ensuring the availability of therapy to patients day in and day out, contacts with decision makers, colleagues from other companies and countries, are the reasons for the decision to launch this programme.

In addition to the abovementioned, a key obstacle for a greater implementation of pharmacoeconomic principles has almost always been the problem of insufficient information, education and lack of opportunity to gain formal knowledge on the part of all participants in the healthcare system.
