Very much anticipated Ambassador Talks session was held on 21st of March at the University Sarajevo School of Science and Technology (SSST) – our students got a chance to meet H.E. Matthew Field, the newly-appointed Ambassador of the UK to BH. Ambassador is not new to Bosnia and Herzegovina – in fact, before being appointed to this mission, he has been engaged in this country and in the region for quite some time. To open possible discussion topics, Ambassador talked about Post-Brexit UK foreign policies in Bosnia and Herzegovina – its challenges and opportunities, disadvantages of the public sector and the need for more investments, and the alarmingly high rate of corruption that disables for Bosnian economy to fully prosper. Ambassador also commented on the high rate of youth employment and „brain drain“, a common issue for countries in transition. Our students were eager to speak with Ambassador especially on this subject and discussed with him the main reasons for an educated young individual from Bosnia to decide to leave his/her country. Students also debated the question of voting and constant irregularities with the election process in this country. The discussion sparked a great interest as the talk with the Ambassador lasted more than an hour and there was not enough time to answer all of them.
Professors from Computer Sciences and Information Systems also participated in this Talk, along with our Economy and Business and Political Sciences and International Relations professors and students. As for the next week, the Ambassador of Germany, H.E. Christiane Hohmann, will meet our students for the last session in March.
