H.E. Christiane Hohmann, Ambassador of Germany to BiH, today lead what was one of the liveliest Ambassador Talks session so far. Students from all departments, especially Economics and Business, Political Sciences and International Relations and Computer Sciences and Information Systems, attended the event and were soon drawn into an interesting discussion about political issues in this country and region, investment opportunities, people going to study and live in Germany and even city life and problems with urban infrastructures in Sarajevo, Mostar, Zenica, Tuzla and other Bosnian cities. Apart from her rich international experience, Madam Hohmann has been truly experiencing life here in Sarajevo, and even using public transportation, going into small communities and municipalities and regularly talking to people to see, from their point of view, what can be done on the smallest level to change the situation to the better.
As we at SSST have a large percentage of international students and German is also the third language spoken and taught at the University, many of them are either Bosnian or Herzegovinian diaspora living in Germany or are native Germans, and they were eager to ask questions in German. Once again, strong ties of Bosnia and Herzegovina with Germany were emphasized, and the Ambassador had the chance to talk about many finished or ongoing projects focused to implement successful German experiences to our own system: the prevention of dumping waste in rivers of Una-Sana Canton, supporting high school students in Jajce that were opposing the system that was trying to separate different nationality students to have classes together, giving donation to support the cultural life and center in Srebrenica, and many more. Madam Ambassador was optimistic to see and hear young people analyzing their current and future lives in the country, especially in reference to many graduates and young people in general leaving Bosnia and Herzegovina to pursue life in Germany.
The Talk with Madam Ambassador Hohmann successfully wrapped up our series for the present time, and the series will be continued again in the next semester.
