Emina Mekić, 2nd year master’s student at our Department of Computer Science, successfully completed UNESCO/ISEDC Co-Sponsored Fellowships Programme, held in Moscow, Russian Federation, from 2-27 October 2017.
Emina was nominated by the Ministry of Civil Affairs of BiH and the State Commission of BiH for UNESCO for the final selection by the UNESCO as the representative of Bosnia and Herzegovina to participate in this Pogramme as one of the 20 young specialists from all over the world. In order to be chosen to participate, candidates for this Fellowship had to demonstrate outstanding intellectual qualities, imagination and personal commitment.
The energy question being a priority for the international community and the United Nations System, the aim of this year’s Programme was to enhance the capacity-building and human resources development in the area of sustainable and renewable energy sources in developing countries and countries in transition. The Programme was conducted and coordinated by the UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation) and ISEDC (International Centre for Sustainable Energy Development), with the support of UNDP (United Nations Development Program) and tool place at carefully selected specialised institutions in Moscow.
Emina states that her participation in the Programme proved to be beneficial and remarkable in many ways. Besides broadening her knowledge in the area of renewable and sustainable energy development through both theoretical and practical sessions, numerous visits to educational and scientific institutions, laboratories, conferences, forums and exhibitions, the huge significance of this experience lays in the unique opportunity to widen horizons by a multicultural and cross-continental experience exchange involving young professionals from all over the world.
“I feel greatly honoured to have been awarded such a wonderful opportunity, especially since renewable energy was one of my favourite topics during Electrical Engineering courses as part of my undergraduate studies. The immense pleasure of spending a month learning from prominent experts, experiencing a taste of intercultural knowledge sharing, as well as getting acquainted with a magical and charming Moscow, will surely remain deeply embedded in my memory for a lifetime”, Emina states.
