Call for Papers
International Conference “Facilitating Dialogue in Divided Societies”

As part of the Jean Monnet Network on “Democratization and Reconciliation in the Western Balkans" Sarajevo School of Science and Technology in partnership with the University of New York Tirana, the Institute for Central-Eastern and Balkan Europe, the University of Dubrovnik, and the European Movement in Serbia are pleased to announce the call for papers to be presented at the international conference on “Facilitating Dialogue in Divided Societies”.
The conference will seek to address theoretical and empirical questions on the relationship between fostering dialogue and reconciliation in post-conflict environments. Specifically, we are seeking to answer the question of how to facilitate intergroup reconciliation through dialogue in the Western Balkans. In addressing this question, we welcome papers dealing with: • New theoretical and methodological approaches in studying the interaction between these two processes;
• Empirical works that seek to explain reconciliation in the Western Balkans; • Comparative case studies and inter-regional comparisons with the Western Balkans;
• NGO representatives and policy makers working in the field of fostering reconciliation in post-conflict environments. We also invite papers from PhD students, early career researchers and senior academics.
Confirmed Keynote Speakers:
• Nataša Kandić, founder of Humanitarian Law Centre, Serbia
• Sonja Biserko, founder of Helsinki Committee for Human Rights, Serbia
• Vladimir Ionaș, President of Roundtable on Ethnic Relations, Romania
Interested applicants are invited to submit their abstracts of no more than 300 words and a short CV sabina.cehajic@ssst.edu.ba or maja.savic@ssst.edu.ba by October 1,
2019.
Applicants will be notified by October 15, 2019 whether their abstracts have been accepted.
