“It is without any doubt, that without an independent and prosperous Bosnia and Herzegovina, there can be no freedom or security in this region.” Ivo Banac
Sarajevo School of Science and Technology mourns the passing of Prof. Ivo Banac; distinguished historian, writer and politician who left an indelible impression on our region’s intellectual and academic discourse. Professor Banac was engaged at our University as the Honorary Head of SSST’s Department of Political Science and International Relations (PSIR) for the past four years. His untimely passing, following a brief and devastating illness, has deeply impacted all of us who had the privilege of working with him. Beloved by students, who benefitted from his exceptional seminars and lectures, he leaves behind such outstanding contribution to the development of our PSIR Department that his vision will long continue to shape our curriculum and research initiatives. We offer our deepest condolences to his family as we share in the grief of his many friends and the academic community at large.
Ivo Banac studied at Fordham University in New York, and earned his Master’s and Doctoral Degrees from Stanford University. He achieved Full Professor title in 1998 at Yale University, and remained Professor Emeritus (History Department) of Yale University following his return to Zagreb. He became the Honorary Citizen of Sarajevo in 2004.
