In spite of the difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the management, academic and administrative staff of the University SSST has put in a lot of effort to organize the best possible online classes during the second semester of the current academic year.
To achieve the highest level of participation and effort from the students, final exams for all departments of the University SSST were held on campus, with strict adherence to the recommended epidemiological measures.
Practical work for general Medicine and Dentistry students was organized in our high-tech laboratories, in small groups and with the obligatory use of masks, gloves, and disinfectants.
In order to see the first generation of Sarajevo Medical School students graduate on time, and to allow the students to defend their final theses before the traditional graduation ceremony, General Hospital “Dr. Abdulah Nakaš” and the University SSST have organized practice for 18 final year students, as part of the scientific and educational cooperation between these two institutions. The practice will be held at the Emergency Center, the Surgery ward, as well as the Orthopedic and Urology departments.
Student practice will be supervised by experienced physicians employed at this institution, namely Dr. Merima Šišić and Dr. Mirjana Malenica, emergency medicine specialists, Dr. Ismar Rašić, general surgery specialist and abdominal surgery subspecialist, Dr. Hasan Tanović, orthopedics specialist, and Dr. Sead Željo, urology specialist.
On the first day, the students were welcomed by Dr. Ismet Gavrankapetanović, acting director of the General Hospital, who stressed that despite the coronavirus epidemic being at its peak, hospital education has been made possible because life must not come to a halt. He also reminded those present that classes were held under much worse circumstances in the past.
Our 6th-year students of the Sarajevo Medical School are students of diverse backgrounds and come from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro, Germany, Egypt, Syria, and Palestine.
