Our 4th edition of the Mediterranean Forum, held on October 23 and 24, started off with the Rectors’ Conference on Mediterranean perspectives in the next decade, at the premises of the University Sarajevo School of Science and Technology (SSST). However, this Mediterranean Forum issue was slightly different because of the limitations due to COVID-19.
While facing a number of difficulties in organizing a scientific event in these almost apocalyptic times, we understand that the progress of science, education and knowledge should not be stopped. This is why we are working hard to continue our efforts on establishing this Forum as a scientific community of Mediterranean academicians, businessman and leaders, exchanging ideas, and strengthening the bond of the Mediterranean community.
Professor Ejup Ganic, the Chancellor of the University, along with the academicians and professors from Spain, Italy, Turkey, Slovenia and Jordan, discussed universities in the post-Covid era, opportunities for international exchange of students and staff, inter-institutional collaboration and much more.
The second day of the Forum was continued with additional five Zoom conferences:
Advances in medical and dental practice and science
Solar Energy in the Mediterranean Cities
Digitization and Emerging Technologies (MeFDIGI2020)
Expert Conference on: Human Migrations in Times of Global Change
Mediterranean Forum - Data Science Conference (MeFDATA2020)
We had a pleasure of having as our speakers a number of academic professionals, scientists, and industry experts not just from the Mediterranean community, but all around the world – Macedonia, UK, and the USA, with more than 200 people tuned in to listen to the lectures from medical, digital and IT, energy, data science, as well as topics dedicated to migration issues. A new edition of the Mediterranean Forum family – the MeFDATA2020 Conference – will have 20 scientific papers from the authors all around the world published in the renowned Springer, a leading global scientific, technical, and medical portfolio. The best student paper was also awarded the prize powered by our friends from BH Futures Foundation, an community to support young experts and professionals from B&H in their career paths. The MeFDIGI2020 Conference was transformed into a Digital City Challenge, which was open to students ready to pitch their ideas on digitalizing their urban communities, with the enormous help from our partners from IT companies Oracle and Mistral.
We also wish to thank our amazing partners: Konrad Adanauer Foundation, for providing support for the scientific community of the Mediterranean Forum for the second year in a row, as well as to our friends from Kuwait Foundation for Advancement of Sciences (KFAS), other institutions, professionals, and our staff who made this story happen amidst the COVID-19 crisis. This is to another year of more exciting talks, discussions, and content and a better year to come!
