Educational Aims of the Module

  • This module is designed to provide students with introductory and basic concepts of international political economy without going into great depth about various parts of the discipline.
  • The main aim of this module is to lay the foundation for further studies in the fields of international and national economics and politics. It aims to achieve this by giving the contours of some basic IPE issues, starting with the intellectual history of the discipline finishing up with an extensive analysis of illustrative case studies.
  • Furthermore, through a clear outline of IPE fundamentals, the module seeks to place the discipline within the globalization debate allowing students to increase and widen their understanding of current international issues from various perspectives.
  • Starting with a brief history of international political economy thought, the module will run through the historical benchmarks of the discipline that have had an impact on various components of this field of study.
  • An important component of the module will be an up to date analysis of IPE matters that define the current study of the discipline.

Intended Learning Outcomes:

  • To improve understanding of the most important terminology from the field of International Political Economy.

  • Evaluate the interrelationships of political and economic factors.

  • To develop in-depth understanding of the constantly changing global environment

  • A thorough understanding of historical development of IPE

  • A solid knowledge of basic sources, concepts and fundamental principles of IPE particularly pertaining to inter-state relations

  • The ability to identify different IPE issues

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the key conceptual elements and in-depth understanding of the role IPE has, including the effects of the close relationship between politics and economics.

  • Ability to collect information related to International Political Economy from number of authorized sources to provide information related to solutions in familiar context

Practical Skills:

  • Write scholarly and grammatically correct essays that are referenced in accordance with established academic practice in the field of IPE.

  • The ability to recognize and analyse the basic concepts of IPE especially pertaining to inter-state relations

  • Identify the basic structure of some most common IPE and globalization issues
